I have been asked by a friend to put the following comment to you:-

"This is a good read, but there is an error in the caption: "Low hanging fruit, but we only eat 17% of what we grow" i.e. we export 83% of the food we grow.

Whereas what Sarah Dyke said was "... we only eat 17% of fruit and 55% of vegetables that are grown in the UK". So in other words we import 83% of the fruit we eat, which is very different."

Best regards

Alan thanks for the kind comments and the observation. I'm not sure I completely agree about the caption. Surely if what Sarah said was "... we only eat 17% of fruit and 55% of vegetables that are grown in the UK" then that must mean we do indeed export the rest. What Sarah didn't say, I think, is that "we only produce 17% of the fruit we eat in the UK". That certainly would imply we import the rest. But based on what she said, we do think the caption is correct?
